The Atlanta Owners Association (AOA) has approached the Classic Boat Museum (CBM) and suggested that it would be a good idea to hold a commemoration event in Cowes to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Uffa Fox – 26 October 1972.

Initial scoping has taken place with the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC), who are hosting the Flying Fifteen European Championships in Cowes 20th to 26th August 2022, and Royal London Yacht Club (RLYC). Both yacht clubs are keen to support an event to mark the occasion if there is sufficient interest. The idea is to organise some fun sailing and dinghy racing provided we have a sufficient number of boats participating. A good social program will also be organised,  Cowes does that well. The event will be known as Uffa Fox 2022.

In order to put on an event like this we need to know how many of the Uffa Fox boating community would consider participating . We are talking to class associations and individuals to guage interest in traveling to Cowes and bring their boats to sail and race over the weekend and enjoy some excellent Cowes social events. The key to a successful event will be good participation from Uffa Fox designed boats across all classes and initial responses have been very encouraging.

The draft programme is shown below.  The event is very much about having fun and celebrating Uffa Fox and his designs!  There is only one criterium for entry/participation: boats must have been designed solely by Uffa Fox.

We would greatly appreciate if you could indicate your level of interest in taking part, as well as provide any comments and suggestions, using one of the methods below.

A firm plan for the event to be published in the Spring. Many thanks in advance, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Uffa Fox related tour and activities

The Uffa Fox celebrations will be followed at Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club by the Flying Fifteen 2022 European championships.

It may be of interest to note that Uffa Fox 2022 will be run a couple of weeks before the usual Classic Boat Revival weekend at Bosham Sailing Club. The Classic Boat Revival aims to encourage ownership and sailing of classic boat classes and has historically had a good turn-out of Uffa Fox designs.  Boats travelling from afar could perhaps organise to attend both events if they can find storage in the area.
